Translate and Pronounce
Translate gives you a few ways to say your text in another language. Pronounce shows how each word sounds, and reads it aloud.
Set your two languages
I write in is the language you usually write in. Translate into is the one you read best. Text in your Translate into language goes into the one you write in; anything else goes into Translate into.
Set them in Settings › General on a Mac or Windows, All settings › Languages in Chrome or Edge, and Profiles › Languages on the web.
Translate
- Select the text.
- Press ⌃⇧⌘T on a Mac or Win+Ctrl+Alt+T on Windows, or choose Translate on the small bar over your selection. In Chrome or Edge, you can also right-click and choose DuoTyping › Translate selection. On the web, choose Translate in Write.
- Choose Replace selection on the way you like (Use This on the web), or copy it.
To change the direction once, use From and Into at the top.
Translate needs a free account, even with your own key, and never uses a check: Free has 50 translations a day. With your own key on Windows, choose Use DuoTyping for Translate the first time.
Pronounce
- Select a word or more. On the web, select one word.
- Press ⌃⇧⌘P on a Mac or Win+Ctrl+Alt+P on Windows. In Chrome or Edge, right-click and choose DuoTyping › Pronounce selection. On the web, choose Pronounce.
- Choose Play, or Slowly.
The speaker on the small bar reads your selection aloud right where it is.
Pronounce sends nothing you write, and reads any language your device has a voice for. Its IPA, the symbols that show how a word sounds, is for English words only.
